W3Schools Review

This week's review is based on the website W3Schools. According to the website's "About" page, it is a school for web developers that covers all the aspects of web development with simple and interactive learning experiences. After browsing the site a bit, I noticed there are many free resources on the site. However, you can also pay to be certified in certain areas, should you choose that route.

Review Questions:

Does the Site's home page validate?

No.

Find any other page on the site. Does the second page validate?

No.

Document how many validation errors and/or warnings may exist on each of the two pages you validate.

I found a total of 100 validation errors/warnings that exist between both pages. On the "Home" page, there is a total of 9 validation errors. On the "About" page, there is a total of 91 validation errors.

How would you rate the site's design, on a scale of 1(horrible) to 10 (fantastic)? Why?

I would give the site a rating of 5 for design. While I find the overall design aesthetically pleasing, I feel that the main page scrolls on too long. I also feel like the site very vaguely describes what it's about on its home page, while mostly just listing off all the languages it offers instruction in. It took a while for me to find its "About" page, located at the very bottom of the home page. It might be a personal preferrence, but I like when a site's about section is easily accessible in a navigation bar.

How would you rate the site's usability on a scale of 1 (horrible) to 10 (fantastic)? Why?

I would give the site a rating of 8 for usability. Overall, navigating through the content is pretty simple and streamlined. From what I saw of the courses, it is structured in an intuitive way from one subject to the next.

Does the site meet its purpose?

Based off of my browsing, I would agree that the site meets its purpose of being an education resource for web developers. It appears to cover a variety of different coding languages and skills.
